He continued at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he completed his General Surgery internship followed by a four-year residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Chen received his subspecialty training during his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the renowned Philadelphia Hand Center, Thomas Jefferson University. After completing ten years of vigorous training, Dr. Chen lived in Chicago as a practicing physician in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He was a Clinical Instructor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University and served as Team Physician for the Evanston High School football teams.
